South Dayton Lifestyle Magazine sat down with Dr. Catherine Harrison to discuss skincare tips and tricks featured in their April 2020 magazine.
Green. Natural. Organic. Plant-based. These are words that have moved beyond just food and diet, as more Americans are concerned about not only what goes in their bodies, but also what goes on them and is absorbed by the skin. Two years ago, nearly half of American women who used skincare products reported looking for those labeled as natural or organic, according to market research—the chief concern being avoiding “toxins.” However, toxins aren’t well defined, said Dr. Catherine Harrison, a local scientist turned natural skincare brand founder.
Background With a name that means ‘everlasting’ or ‘immortal’, it is no wonder people turn to helichrysum to protect their skin. A small, yellow, flowering herb that is native to the Mediterranean, and is a member of the sunflower family. Renowned for its lush and spicy scent. Even more important than the wonderful smell is the superior soothing and healing benefits of this multitasking, little plant.
Science Research of helichrysum is currently limited, however the scientific community is starting to pay closer attention. Preliminary studies have suggested numerous benefits. Reputed for its rich antioxidant properties, scientists have been studying the antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties of helichrysum. Reported benefits include helping to soothe dryness and irritation, softening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, minimizing acne and blemishes, and overall assisting to rejuvenate and revitalize the complexion.
Why We Love It Here at Willowdale Botanicals, we are quite the fans of the humble Helichrysum. So much so that we grow our very own USDA certified organic helichrysum right here on our farm in Lewisburg, Ohio. We use the ultra-clean helichrysum in our luxuriously silky Helichrysum Nightly Renewal Cream. Along with helichrysum, this powerful moisturizer contains other proven skin saviors including elderberry extract, sea buckthorn oil, Melissa extract, white tea, ultra-softening mango seed butter, and rosehip oil. The result is a lightweight yet deeply hydrating fluid. Rich with a targeted fusion of natural, plant-based alpha and beta carotenes filled with vitamins C, D, and E that help restore and soften your skin overnight.
We may be biased, yet we are sure this dynamic Helichrysum Nightly Renewal Cream is exactly what your skin needs to wake up rejuvenated and radiant. Check out the many benefits of Helichrysum Nightly Renewal Cream and our entire collection of small-batch, fresh, green beautyhere!

Apply liberally, rub well into the hands and allow to dry without wiping off. Repeat as needed when in contact with potentially contaminated surfaces. While thoroughly washing your hands with soap and water remains the best protection, 70% isopropyl alcohol hand sanitizer if used properly can help protect you from spreading contaminants that you touch.
We recommend to use after: – Pumping gas – Using public restrooms – Going to the grocery store – Touching public doors and handles – When washing your hands isn’t an option – After exposure to any potentially contaminated surfaces
With the increase of washing your hands, we know how your skin may be a bit more irritated, so we highly recommend you use our Heal & Seal on chapped and irritated skin. Check it out here.
We are giving bottles of this product for free to nurses at several local hospitals because they are working tirelessly to help our communities. We love them for their efforts. Your purchase supports them, and we thank you for making your purchase through us!
Our gel hand sanitizer effectiveness is greatly reduced when your hands are dirty.
Active Ingredient Isopropyl alcohol USP 70% Purpose: Antimicrobial
What is propylene glycol? An alcohol compound used as a food additive and an emollient skin conditioner. Generally recognized as safe by the FDA for ingestion and inhalation. We use it in our hand sanitizer because it provides skin conditioning and protection while also being stable in the 70% alcohol gel. It is not polyethylene glycol (PEG), and doesn’t share any of the safety concerns people have about PEG.
What is polyacrylate crosspolymer-6? It’s a gentle, skinsafe polymer used to form a gel when used in high concentrations of alcohol. Developed specifically for use in skincare products. It helps form a protective barrier on the skin. Since it is biodegradable is not considered a microplastic according to the definition of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
